So let’s keep cock-ups to an absolute minimum.: lagertha-lodbrok: Here’s the fucking thingI’ve heard/seen several...

lagertha-lodbrok:

Here’s the fucking thing

I’ve heard/seen several people mention how the Steubenville case should remind us all to speak to our daughters about parties and drinking.

Thing is, we already fucking do that. We’ve been doing it. You think I won’t be a paranoid mom about this shit with my daughter? You think every time she goes out to a party I won’t ask the universe to protect her? We already worry about and lecture our daughters endlessly. By the time our daughters are 16 they’ve already been told what a cruel and dangerous place this world is for them.

Guess what? They still get attacked.

So maybe, just fucking maybe, we should shift the focus to talking to and lecturing our young boys and men in our communities. Maybe they need to hear from their adult male role models and peers that there is never ever a time when they can assume consent or force themselves on a woman. Maybe we need to stop our boys before they walk out the door to that party and say, “You be careful, son. If she doesn’t say “YES” then you leave her the hell alone, you got it?” or maybe “You stick with your friends, son. Make sure you look out for each other. If one of your buddies is thinking about taking advantage of a girl, you help him home, ok?”

Our young women don’t need anymore lectures. They hear them from childhood on up.

Stop blaming your daughters and start educating your fucking sons.

South Korea’s president, Park Geun-hye, now faces sexist taunts from North Korea

WHAT A WOMAN! I wish we had a strong, female leader like her in the US. We are in serious need of some estrogen in power to turn things around.

"We hear all the time that “men are visual creatures” and “women are emotional” and “women are attracted to personalities” and “it’s science” and blah blah blah, but I feel comfortable in saying that this is just essentialist garbage that obscures the fact that almost all human beings (who aren’t blind, that is) are visual creatures, regardless of our gender or our sexuality. Most of us like to look at people we find sexually appealing! It’s how we roll, and as long as we don’t treat each other badly because of it, there’s nothing wrong with that. What I do have a problem with is this belief that there is no such thing as the female gaze. It contributes to that god-awful “men are from Mars, women are from Venus” nonsense that acts like men and women are two alien species with virtually nothing in common, when the reality is that men and women have way more in common than not. Many women like to look at sexy people, and many men like their partners to be decent, interesting people. It’s not either/or, yet we keep acting like it is.

Mind you, this is not an argument for creating a culture in which everyone is objectified, which is how I feel things are going. I die a little inside when I hear about rising rates of guys with eating disorders or getting more plastic surgery or taking steroids in their pursuit of bigorexic ideals. Rather, what I want is a culture that accepts that people find a wider variety of bodies to be attractive and sexually appealing than just the ones that belong to a very tiny subset of young sylphlike women. I would also like to live in a culture that does not equate sexuality with dehumanization and objectification, but instead regards it as a very life-affirming aspect of being human, but I suppose that is a lot to ask for a culture that still has aneurysms whenever a woman dares breast-feed in public."

Extreme Is Right.: Why I couldn't care less about "Pope Francis" AKA Jorge Mario Bergoglio AKA Misogynist Pig

extremeisright:

Dear New Pope “Francis”,

Your job is a joke and so are you. You are a false idol, misleading millions of people into thinking you are some sort of special messenger from God. Let me remind you what the Bible has to say about your kind:

Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of…

People tend to overemphasize similarities and ignore differences when comparing the present with the past, says Suzannah Lipscomb. But differences have a lot to teach us. At TEDxSPS, she examines how analyzing the habits of our ancestors might give us a greater appreciation and understanding of…

Feminist Confuses Fox News Host By Suggesting That We Teach Men To Not Attack Women

upworthy:

Sean Hannity thinks all women should have the right to choose… to be armed. Zerlina Maxwell didn’t disagree, yet she went on a three-minute campaign suggesting that perhaps instead of arming victims, we take another more obvious route, like, I dunno, teaching men not to rape, since that seems to work really well. Seriously, it works REALLY WELL.

He thought ignoring her would be the best way not to hear that. And now his fans are threatening her.

Christians in the room—I’d like an honest response, if you can give it. Please read the following verses and then, in your OWN words, please explain to me how the Bible is “Pro-Life” or “Pro-Sanctity-of-Life”:

“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.” —Psalm 137:9

“Now therefore kill every male among the little ones.” —Numbers 31:17

“And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men and the women and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain…” —Deuteronomy 2:34

“And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of they daughters.” —Deuteronomy 28:53

“Slay both man and woman, infant and suckling.” —1 Samuel 15:3

“Dash their children and rip up their women with child.” —2 Kings 8:13

“…all the women therein that were with child he ripped up.” —2 Kings 15:16

“Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.” —Isaiah 13:16

“They shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.” Isaiah 1318

“Slay utterly old and young, both maids and little children.” —Ezekiel 9:6

“Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.” —Hosea 9:14

___________________________________________________

I came up with a few conclusions myself after reading this.

1.) The Bible could care less about the lives of babies and pregnant women. (Especially if they are from foreign nations—HEAVEN FORBID!)

2.) The Bible/Writers of the Bible could care less about WOMEN, IN GENERAL. This has less to do with the message of the Bible and more to do with the fact that the Bible was written by a bunch of ignorant, misguided MEN who thought of women as property at that time and not as people. Let’s not forget that these same men probably thought the Earth was flat.

3.) The Bible is a violent, vengeful cluster-fuck of contradiction. One minute it’s talking about all-encompassing love and the next it’s commanding you to murder a baby. The lesson that SHOULD be taken from this is that the Bible is just like any other book—written by PEOPLE, who are capable of making mistakes and bad judgement calls…even in their writing.

I feel like I’m the only woman on the planet who could give a rat’s ass about SHOES. I mean, right now…I’m wearing furry house-slippers and I don’t plan on changing that today unless I have to.

Heels are damn uncomfortable! I mean, yeah…I’ve learned over time how to walk gracefully in them and make it SEEM like I’m not in utter misery at the end of the night. But the second I get home or in the car, those puppies are coming off! The last pair of shoes I bought cost $6.95 and were grey slip-on sneakers. (Super-comfy!) Anyway, that’s just another part of girlishness that I just can’t relate to, I guess.
